And finally, the last project making headlines this past week was Herzog & de Meuron’s VitraHaus in Weil am Rhein. This building became Subtilitas’ most popular post when featured last month, and the additional images now available from the opening are even more impressive. I had my reservations about this design when it was first made public a couple of years ago, but as with most H&deM designs, the beauty is revealed in the details of the built form. A more-complicated-then-it-looks arrangement of stripped down pitched roof forms creates a complex circulation diagram that wraps around several showrooms for Vitra’s new home line.
